GPS Logger — Privacy Policy

Location while recording

GPS Logger uses your device's GPS to record a track (position, altitude, speed, time) while you use the recording feature. This data is stored only in a local database on your phone. It is never uploaded, backed up to a server, or shared with anyone. Deleting a track or uninstalling the app removes it permanently — there is nothing to delete from our side, because we never had a copy.

You can export a track as a GPX file at any time; where that file goes afterward (email, cloud storage, another app) is entirely up to you and outside this app's control.

Speed-limit / road databases

Speed-limit data comes from downloadable, per-country database files derived from OpenStreetMap. Downloading one of these files is a plain file request to GitHub — it does not include your location, and nothing about which country you downloaded is linked to you personally.

Live shared reports (optional, off by default)

GPS Logger can optionally show and let you submit live reports (mobile radar, police, accidents, traffic jams, hazards) shared by other users nearby. This feature is off until you turn it on in Settings. When it is on:

• The app periodically asks a server "what's been reported near this position" — this request contains your approximate coordinates but nothing that identifies you, and the server does not keep a record of who asked.
• If you submit a report, it contains only the report type and your current coordinates. There is no account, name, device ID, or advertising identifier attached to it.
• A random token is generated on your device (once, at install) purely to limit how many reports one device can submit per hour, as an anti-spam measure. This token is hashed before it ever leaves your device, is never stored alongside a submitted report, and cannot be used to link separate submissions back to a person.
• Reports expire automatically — typically within 45 minutes to a few hours depending on type — and are then deleted from the server entirely.

Because nothing is tied to an identity in the first place, there is no "delete my data" request to make for this feature — an expired report simply ceases to exist.

Map display

The live map and replay screens load map tiles from OpenStreetMap's tile servers as you pan and zoom. Like any map based on live tiles, this means the tile server sees your device's IP address and the map area you are currently viewing while the map is open — the same way it would for any website with an embedded map. GPS Logger does not add anything on top of that; it is inherent to how map tiles work.

What GPS Logger does not do

• No user accounts or sign-in of any kind
• No advertising, no ad identifiers, no third-party trackers
• No analytics or usage tracking
• No data sold or shared for marketing purposes — there is no data collected about you to sell in the first place

Children's privacy

GPS Logger is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them beyond what is described above (which, again, is not tied to any identity).

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top will change accordingly. Material changes (for example, if a future feature started collecting something new) will be reflected here before that feature ships.
